Zechariah’s Home Young Women’s Bible Study
September 19 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Women 20-30 somethings, this Study is for you! Daughter, wife, mother, friend, cousin, sister…we wear many hats in this life. It’s important to stop and refocus on what’s truly important: God’s Word and finding our purpose solely in Jesus.
6:30pm – 7:30pm at the home of Stacie Kirkman EVERY OTHER THURSDAY
Why is it called “Zechariah’s Home”?
Well, in the Bible, Luke chapter 1, starting in verse 39, almost right after Mary received the news from the Angel that she was pregnant with the coming Messiah, she wanted to go and see Elizabeth (Mary’s cousin) and Zechariah (Elizabeth’s husband). You see, Elizabeth was going through something very similar by God allowing her to conceive a child in her 60s and this being announced to Zechariah by an Angel. Mary desired comfort, support, encouragement and strength and she knew she would get those in Zechariah and Elizabeth’s home. Mary must have been bursting to talk to a woman who could personally understand her excitement, her wonder, and probably her nervousness, too. Mary didn’t mind traveling the 80 miles to see her cousin.
Mary’s trip also demonstrates the call of community. Sometimes, our physical presence is the best gift we can give another person. Remember, too, that Mary is carrying Christ inside her, which gives another layer of meaning to her decision to offer support to her cousin.
Ultimately, the Visitation reminds us that no one is an island. We all live and thrive in relation to others. Sometimes we give in these encounters, and sometimes we receive. And often, as in the Visitation, it’s a beautiful combination of the two.
